Café des Musées

Corner bistro with outdoor seating? Check.

Open everyday? Check.

Honest and wholsome French cooking? Check.

Café des Musées is an honest bistro in the heart of the Marais district. One that is open on Sundays. The corner location of the restaurant with its wood paneling and mini outdoor seating area makes it very Parisian. Though a lot of visitors come to eat this recommended restaurant, it is also a favorite for locals who are looking for something wholesome, not revolutionary and at a good price.

The menu of the day which used to be priced at 13 euros has now increased to 22 euros – probably due to the recent positive reviews it has been receiving and the increase in clients. But still, 3 courses for 22 euros isn’t too bad, right?

Menu du jour (menu of the day):

Acidulé de betteraves confites et ventrèche de cochon noir (Red beets confit with black spotted pork belly). Surprisingly good with the saltyness of the pork belly and the sweet/sourness of the beets. Beautiful color.

Onglet de veau roti chimichurri et pommes écrasées (skirt steak with chimichurri and mashed potatoes). The meat was quite thick for a skirt steak and very tender. i wasn’t a fan of the potatoes but the chimichurri gave the meat a little acidity which was a good accompaniment.

Semoule a la vanille, crème de caramel beurre salé (Vanilla semolina and salted butter caramel sauce)

The problem was that other dishes on the menu were also featured and they looked too good to ignore. Solution? Try some.

Terrine ménagère de foies de volaille (terrine of chicken rich with liver and studded with fat) – accompanied by the largest pot of cornichons I have seen. It was rustic and good.

Entrecôte à la plancha, frites fraiches et sauce bearnaise (Entrecote steak) – a lot for one person but very good in value and taste.

We didn’t opt for wine but the wine list is extensive featuring different regions of France at a very affordable price. Bottles less than 15 euros and with great value are also featured.

A great neighborhood favorite and I can see why.
